MPs' expenses campaign

Everyone has been horrified by the excessive expenses claimed by many MPs. Antonia has challenged Emily Thornberry not to take the rise in the London Supplementary Allowance, which has more than doubled to £7,500.

Antonia has promised not to take the London Supplementary Allowance at all, if she is elected.

And a Conservative government would cut the total number of MPs, get rid of pointless quangos, cut the cost of Whitehall and let taxpayers see where their money is spent by publishing the details online.

It was only recently we learnt that Islington town hall employs 18 staff on salaries of more than £100,000, a total up by nearly a third despite the recession.

And the BBC's File on Four programme found evidence the chief executive was being paid 40 per cent more than necessary.

A Conservative government would publish all council spending above £500 online, so taxpayers can see how their money is spent and check it is not being wasted.
